Utilising high quality sustainable design St Vincent’s create homes people want to live in. They have a dedicated team of sustainability specialists that actively promotes energy efficient homes with a low environmental impact. They also offer information and training to other housing associations and independent landlords. In terms of sustainability, their approach is exemplary.
St Vincent’s has an environmentally sustainable approach not only to new build development, but also to maintenance. As part of their initiative for on-going planned maintenance and upgrading, Steon Lighting were asked to design lighting schemes for various properties.
As St Vincent’s takes a whole life-cycle costing approach to procurement, rather than focusing on immediate savings, LED luminaires were chosen due to their lower long term maintenance and operational costs.
The Orbit LED, a high output decorative surface luminaire, was supplied for use in the lounges and main living spaces. The versatile 16W Lynx LED, which outperforms 28W TC-DD compact fluorescents, complemented the high efficiency Palaos LED panel servicing the communal corridors. Stairwells were illuminated by prism packs.
For enhanced energy savings, all the luminaires were fitted with an integrated Manual Intelligent Control (MIC) with daylight linking, lux level monitoring and occupancy sensors. This ensured the luminaires would switch on when presence was detected in a particular area, on the condition that there was insufficient daylight to achieve the required working illuminance.
Steon Lighting continue to work closely with St Vincent’s, they are committed to sustainability; with an energy monitoring system in place they publish performance data for all of their buildings. In instances where LED lighting has been implemented it has resulted in a 61% energy saving.
