Bruntwood have a portfolio of over 110 properties across the UK providing affordable office lets, serviced offices and retail spaces. One of which is in Manchester and houses The University of Law.
Bruntwood approached Steon Lighting to address upgrade the lighting scheme at The University of Law, they were keen to explore a solution which would contribute towards their energy saving initiatives whilst also mitigating maintenance savings. The client in particular had expressed a desire for low maintenance. The existing lighting scheme consisted of 75W halogen lamps, not only are these considered dated technology, but they are also comparatively expensive to operate and require frequent re-lamping.
Steon Lighting recommended a transition from halogen lamps to LED technology. Our design engineers completed lighting calculations for the reception and main lobby areas and decided that the Royal Décor downlighter would be suitable for this application. Steon designed the lighting scheme to 300 lux in accordance with CIBSE guidelines and also used 3000K colour temperature which provides a warmer and more inviting aesthetic. The Royal Décor has an appealing design with a drop glass lens and are therefore the perfect solution for the reception and lobby areas. With a LED life expectancy of 50,000 hours the Royal Décor luminaires are virtually maintenance free, ensuring inconvenience and disruption is kept to a minimum.
To satisfy the emergency requirements Steon also supplied Chara LEDs which are dedicated self-contained non-maintained emergency downlight luminaires. These Chara downlights are discreet and were incorporated into the lighting scheme to ensure that in the event of a mains failure adequate lighting levels were maintained.
The new lighting scheme at Manchester’s The University of Law is decorative yet energy conscious, the reception and main lobby areas have been completely transformed and elevated. Following the smooth completion of the project the environmental impact has been measurably reduced which in turn has resulted in reduced costs.
Following the smooth completion of the project, Steon Lighting have had the good fortune of continuing to work closely with Bruntwood on other projects across the country.
